Can I put pizza boxes in a cardboard recycling container?
Food-soiled boxes are often not recyclable. Clean portions can be torn off and recycled, while greasy parts belong in general waste.

Why separate cardboard
Cardboard takes up a lot of space in general waste containers, which means they fill faster and need more frequent hauls. Separating cardboard frees up that capacity and allows the material to be recycled into new packaging. Clean, dry cardboard is widely accepted for recycling. Waxed cardboard, food-soiled boxes, and cardboard mixed with plastic or trash may not be recyclable, so keeping the container clean is important.
Getting the most from your container
Breaking down boxes before placing them in the container dramatically increases how much fits. Flattened cardboard stacks neatly, while whole boxes waste space. Train staff to remove packing tape, plastic wrap, and foam inserts when practical, and to keep the container closed or covered in wet weather. Wet cardboard is heavier and harder to recycle.
Temporary and project-based needs
Many businesses use cardboard recycling containers during specific events, like store openings, inventory resets, holiday seasons, or office moves. A temporary container handles those spikes without committing to ongoing service. Homeowners also use cardboard recycling containers after a move, when boxes and packing materials fill the garage. We can size a container for your specific volume.
Building a cardboard routine staff will follow
The best cardboard systems are simple. Keep a box cutter near the receiving area so boxes are broken down as soon as they are emptied. Place the cardboard container close to the stockroom door so the walk is short. Post a sign that says what belongs inside and what does not. During peak seasons, assign one person per shift to check the container level. These habits keep the storeroom clear, make recycling reliable, and prevent cardboard from ending up in the general waste container. A clean cardboard stream also makes it easy to see how much packaging your operation generates, which can inform conversations with suppliers about shipping and packing choices over time.
